I spent 42 years at Eastman Chemical Company as a Research Fellow in the Analytical Sciences Division, where I had the opportunity to work with outstanding scientists and engineers on a wide variety of analytical chemistry and mass spectrometry applications. During that time I became involved in the identification of unknown compounds, mass spectral interpretation, development of mass spectral libraries, analytical method development, and the evaluation of new instrumentation.
This page is intended as an educational overview of Eastman Chemical Company, its history, technologies, and analytical capabilities. While much of the information presented is publicly available, I have also included links to resources on my webpage that I believe will be useful to chemists, mass spectrometrists, students, and anyone interested in industrial research and development.
Eastman has a very rich history of chemical innovation and includes a very large chemicals from coal facility. Currently they are focuing on recycling.

About Eastman: An Engineer's View of History
Eastman is very good at reverse engineering the chemical products of other companies, at identifying by-products in processes, and at identifying organic unknowns in our effluents. Use of Mass Spectrometry in Industrial Application ACS Workshop
Eastman Chemical Co. at one time was intimately involved with Eastman Kodak in Rochester, NY, and a very large percentage of our products were sold internally to Kodak. Currently Eastman Kodak in Rochester, NY essentially purchases no chemicals of any significance.
At one time, DPI (Distillation Products Industries) and Eastman Chemicals produced specialty chemicals for industry and educational institutions. I found some particulary entertaining post cards used by DPI used as advertisements to customers. I included one below, but all 24 can be found in the link.
